Be Thankful and Give Back

Thanksgiving is about more than just turkey and cranberry sauce – it’s the time to think about all we have to be grateful for, and find ways to help others.

As a small business, we know that marketing around the holidays goes beyond sales and promotions. It’s all about connecting with customers on a much deeper, personal level. Consumers want to align themselves with brands that are doing good deeds and share their values. Here are some ways for your company to get involved and give back during the holiday season, or even year-round!

Sponsor a Community Organization

Communities and organizations across America are suffering from lack of involvement and budget cuts. Embrace your community by finding and supporting local organizations. Some examples may include sponsoring an underfunded sports, arts, music or afterschool program – like your local YMCA or the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. Local non-profit organizations, like animal shelters, soup kitchens, or libraries could also benefit from your contribution. You’d be surprised how many organizations within a community are in need of support, especially during the holiday season!

Organize an Employee Volunteer Day

Company-led volunteer days can not only improve your community, but also boost office morale and employee camaraderie! Plan a day or two each year when employees can volunteer together – like building a house through Habitat for Humanity, or preparing meals for a homeless shelter. These outings can be more cost-effective than writing a check, and provide a personal connection with your local community organizations.

Volunteering can bring companies together!

Make a Difference and Donate Used Furniture

We at Gregory Grier know that furniture donations are critical for low-income families. Some of these families are forced to make difficult choices between buying essential items (like food and clothing) and items that we may take for granted (like electronics, toys, or home furnishings). In light of giving thanks, we at Gregory Grier have donated furniture to local organizations in need around the holidays as a way to give back to the community. If you’re thinking of renovating or downsizing your business, consider donating your old furniture to a charity such as Goodwill or A Wider Circle.

Don’t throw out your old furniture – donate it!

These are just a few of the many ways for your business to get involved during this time of year, but do not limit yourself or your employees to volunteering during one season! Take the first step and set an example for your employees and community, and your clients are sure to take notice!
